My journey into financial planning |
缘起 · 成为金融理财规划师

I moved from Yunnan, China to Singapore in 1998, and became a Singapore citizen twelve years later in 2010. My working life before insurance took me through three very different worlds: three years as a Marketing Promotion Officer at the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kunming, seven years as an HR Generalist at Flextronics, a world-renowned electronics manufacturer, and six years as an NIE-trained MOE mother-tongue teacher at Qifa Primary School.

In August 2014, I made the transition to AIA as a Financial Services Consultant. As Confucius observed, “at forty, one is no longer confused” — this was not an easy decision, but it was a deliberate one, made with clear eyes about what I wanted the second half of my life journey to stand for. It grew out of encountering Builders Financial, a deeply supportive team of professionals, and out of a growing conviction about how much financial risk management matters to individuals and the people they love. Every contract I have delivered, every claim I have settled, and every cheque I have brought to a client’s door has sharpened the same sense of urgency in me: to share what I know about holistic insurance planning, to offer real solutions for my clients; financial protection, and to reach out before time runs out.

My professional mission is simple: to make every insurance contract a conveyance of love; to ensure every claim extends a warming hand in winter’s frost; and to let every payout bring a dawn of life’s fresh journey.

That mission started with protection, but over the years it has grown into something broader: holistic financial planning. I sit with young adults charting how their first pot of savings can grow into a first home or a fledgling business. I sit with young couples doing the same for their children’s education fund. I walk a client toward retirement, structuring the income that will carry them comfortably through their next chapter. And increasingly, I help parents and grandparents plan how what they have built will pass smoothly to the next generation — a legacy that reaches beyond their own lifetime. Protection, accumulation and distribution are, to me, three chapters of the very same story.

My director, Cheng, has been a trailblazer for me at AIA. She showed me a way to make a genuinely positive impact on people’s lives through professional insurance planning and comprehensive financial planning, and I count myself fortunate to be under her mentorship.
